Jenine's Story

Where shall I start? I am a 35 year old woman who has Cushing's. Having one chin hair was fine until it developed into a full beard and mustache.

Various doctor visits only resulted in a diagnosis of PCOS, but I knew there was more to it. My periods were few and far between, the hair pattern on my body resembled that of a man, my weight was increasing steadily despite my modified consumption and exercise, my hair was falling out and I was constantly beat-down tired.

I have gained over 75 lbs, and 45 of those pounds over the last 3 years. My doctor prescribed me Xanax, under the impression that I was depressed after my mother died. I didn't take the pills, but I decided to get another doctor. Blood tests requested by my new doctor revealed that blood pressure is elevated, my DHEA levels are off the charts, and my testosterone levels exceed that of a man!

My new doctor referred me to an endocrinologist, Dr. Wong. I was in the process of being treated by him, but I lost my job. I am faithful that I will find a job soon so that I may be able to seek treatment and reclaim my life as I once knew it.

For all of us "Cushies", my prayers are with you! Let's stand firm on our foundation of faith, tap into the health resources and embrace good health!
