And It's About Time There Was Some Support For Cushing's!
I got diagnosed w/a 8mm pituitary tumor in feb "03". I had practically all the symptoms since I was 13 yrs old. I'm now 19. I knew something wasn't right b/c I gained a lot of weight in a short period of time. I was too embarrassed to go to the dr. And when I did go they said to lose weight. Finally, like 2 yrs ago I started to see a physycologist and she ordered some tests. They came back high and they thought I had pcos but then I got a pelvic ultrasound and went to a gyn and all was normal, so my gyn ordered a 24 hr cortisol test and came back high, like 500 something.
My dr. Then sent me to an endo which ordered another 24 hr cortisol and a dex test where I had to take a pill at midnight and get bloodwork done at 8am the next morning. After that, I had an mri done, which showed the tumor and I had it removed on may 14th "03".
This is an awful disease and I had a very hard time in school b/c of the teasing and everything. I had no friends and I hated going out in public. I did finish school but it was hard. I got my diploma and am going to school to become a med. Office assistant in january. This disease ruined all my teen yrs b/c I barely did anything fun b/c of it. I'm so depressed about my weight, but hopefully it'll come off soon. I weigh about 300 lbs now and want to be like 150. I'm hoping i'll be normal again someday.
