And It's About Time There Was Some Support For Cushing's!
Hello - I have bben taking Prednisone for over 20 years.
It all started with a rash on my hands and face. When I first married (Living in MD then) and moved to a different area the problem started. I though..ok..it's the water. I went to several Dr.s. They did skin biops, & blood test. Dermities.( spelling challenged with Medical words..sorry) When creams and lotions did not work they started me on Prenisone. Worked like a charm.
I started on little doses ( power pks) then I could go for up to 8 months and no problem. This went on for years.
About 4 years ago, I started to gain weight. Could not figure it out. Lost a job due to quick weight gain ( could not fit into office suits). I was tired all the time. Went to one Dr. and tolh him that not only had I gained weight, but my back was hurting as were my feet and legs..his answer " You are just getting old" I was 46.
To make the rest of this very long story short, I found a new DR. I take 20 mg. of Prednisone a day and weight continues to grow. My eating habits have never changed.
Dx's now are Fibromyalgia, Osteop of the hips, feet and spine,and Pernicious anemia. Having more blood work done in Nov. I have asked my Dr. about Cushings as SO amny of my symptoms match, as they do to Thyroid problems. Dr. claims no way for Cushings and as far as the Thyroid, he tested and came back neg. I have founf through rearch that prednisone can and will make test come back false/neg. as it will hide things.
I also have been told that I am steroid depended now and will be the rest of my life. My daughter, who is a nurse said that I need to look mor into this and force the Dr. to test for this..so here I am.
I really think I have Cushings. - Robin
