Yvonne's Story...

Hello-

I am pretty new to this site so bear with me. I am 26 yrs old and I have been married for 7 years. About 6 months after I was married I started having weird pains in my hands and feet. After many doctors I was diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome. They told me to take Ibuprohen and it would go away. Zoom up about two years, I can barely get out of bed and I am taking 20 Ibuprophen a day to no avail. I finally went and got a second opinion (with no medical insurance I may add), and was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. They immediately put me on prednisone, About 15 mg a day. I knew nothing about prednisone and was not told of any side affects. All I knew was that I felt better then I had in a long time!

I immediately gained 100 pounds in six months and started having eye trouble. I thought I was just eating too much. I also was getting the lump on the back of the neck and the moon face. Now zoom up about a year. I was up to 20 mg of prednisone a day. Mine and my husband's ! roommate gets adrenal cancer. His name is Jeff Longley and his story is in with the bios on this website. He is diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome. First time I had ever heard about it. My friend's mom approaches me and says she thinks I have the classic signs of Cushing's.

Subsequently, I went to the Endocrinologist and sure enough. I have prednisone induced Cushing's. I am lowered to 3mg a day and should be completely off the prednisone by the first of the year. In the meantime I have 100 pounds of fluid and fat to get rid of and no idea how to do it! I was also diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome because of all the weigh I gained. So in order to have kids I have to get rid of all this weight.

I am very thankful for my faith in Jesus Christ and the support of my friends and family and especially my husband :)
