And It's About Time There Was Some Support For Cushing's!
I am 38 and I think I have had Cushing's for 15 to 20 years. I have lost count of the number of doctors and test I have seen in the past 10 years. Most of which tell me to lose weight. If only I could. I have always been overweight. As a teenager I played sports and was active but could not get my weight under 170 lbs. I had stretch marks and the hump on my neck for many years. Currently I am in the morbidly obese category. I have hirus., PCOS, insulin resistance, deep stretch marks all over my body, moon face, buffalo hump, aches and pains, sleep apnea, red face, fibromyalgia, depression and the worst fatigue I can describe. I think I may have developed acromegaly. My jaw bone grew about 5 years ago giving me and under bite, spread my teeth apart and made them lose. I also have had to start buying large men's gloves to fit my huge hands.
I have been diagnosed with PCOS and had a hysterectomy in Nov. of 2003. My symptoms have become worse since then. In Jan. 2004 I came down with the worst sinus infection I have ever had. It took me more than five weeks to get over it. I still have fluid behind my ear drums and can't hear well. I have started seeing a nurse practitioner for natural hormones. She ran some blood test and found my cortisol level was very high. My progesterone levels were high post hysterectomy without supplementation. My blood also tested positive for yeast.
Currently I am being treated for the yeast, insulin resistance with Metformin and Spirolactone. I also take Neurontine for fibromyalgia. I have not been able to find a doctor to diagnose me yet. I am going to ask for a referral to one of the doctors posted. This disease has nearly destroyed my life. It has taken away my confidence, pride in myself and the joy I should be having. It makes me sad to see so many people here suffering but, at least I know that I am not alone. I don't think this disease is a rare as they think.
