Sabrina's Story

I was thrilled when I found this site. My problem started in 1991 after the birth of my third daughter. I started forming a buffalo hump. The dr. told me I was over weight and if I lose the weight I will lose the hump. To make a long story short, I didn't lose either of them. I went from 150# to in 1990 to my highest weight of 283# in 2002. I started skipping periods, growing hair on my upper lip and under my chin. Several years later I developed the striae (hope I spelled that right) In 2001 every thing went haywire. I gained 30 pounds that year, my mood swings were developing, I blamed it on the stress of having a child with bipolar. In 2002 I was getting tired, hungry all the time, couldn't get enough to drink. So, I went to my doctor and told him all my symptoms and with out running any test he told me I had PCOS.

Well, I was working constantly and couldn't take it any more. So, I told my boss I'm sorry, I'm falling apart, I'm quitting. While I was home I was hoping that after all the years of working none stop I could get my self pulled together. It didn't happen. I went to the dr. I had a bp of 143/110 he diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and depression. He put me on zoloft, metformin and lisinopril. I was feeling good, lost 40 pounds. Then things started happening again after I found out my husband was being deployed. Not only was I tired all the time, My hair started falling out while I was in the shower (gradually) My face was starting to turn red, and round. new stretch marks forming. I thought I was losing my mind, I kept forgetting a lot of little things, my collar bone would start hurting and the pain would go all the way to my finger tips, and the swelling was awful. I'm 34 years old and have acne.

I found a new dr. and he ran some blood test and said my cholesterol was 270. He put me on lipitor. He wanted to refer me to a gyn specialist. I asked him why, He said to get the testing done for PCOS. I told him I didn't think it was PCOS. He said neither did I. I said well what do you think it is. He said Cushing's. I had the head ct done and it came back normal. He messed up on my blood test. He did the test at 11:30 am and it should have been done at 8 am. So, I go in the morning and have it redone. This has been a 13 year struggle. It seems like I am done for 3 weeks and going good for a week and it all starts all over again. I know this story probably seems choppy. As you can see I'm not much of a writer. I'm just glad I found this site. Feel free to contact me anytime. I have nothing but time and a big shoulder for anyone to cry on.
