Mac's Story

Hi. I'm a 30 year old woman in Northern VA who hasn't felt quite "right" for 12 years. I married the love of my life a little over a year ago, and we have a great life, beautiful house, adorable puppies, and terrific friends and family.

I just wish I could enjoy it more...fatigue and my weight are my two main complaints. I've had a lot of diagnoses but none of them felt quite right until I started researching Cushings. I really think that's what is going on.

Right now, I have appointments with two terrific Cushings specialists in mid July, but in the meantime, I'm looking for support. I've read the stories and it breaks my heart that there is so much ignorance out there about Cushings.

Besides having many of the "classic" symptoms, I had a cortisol saliva test at the integrative medical clinic I worked for early this year. My 8am and 4pm levels were extremely depressed, my noontime number was high, and my midnight cortisol was really high. Normal range is between 1-4...I had a 9. It makes sense...I'm exhausted early in the am and in the afternoon, gung ho at lunch, and wide awake at night. It used to be just the opposite.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice on dealing with the symptoms while waiting to see the doc and hopefully get an official diagnosis, I'm all ears.

Update May 29, 2008

I'd like to add that my blood sugar and blood pressure are now all over the place...too high or too low, causing more fainting spells and shortness of breath.
