Karen's Story

I recently was found to have an adrenal tumor.

About ten years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS when blood work /unrine work up showed I had high cortisol levels, but they could not find a tumor then. Now, I have a tumor but my blood work is normal.

I have yet to be diagnosed with Cushings, but find the fatigue and inability to sleep is getting worse. When I was 19, I had some abnormal blood work, but they ruled out Cushings then. I gained weight in college (about 60 lbs) and have held steady at around 200 since then. I am only 5 ft tall. I am now 40.

It is very frustrating because when they went to look for a tumor they couldn't find it. Now I have a tumor that is 4cm, but the blood work is normal. Is this unusual?

I feel I may have been suffering from Cushings since I was 19, but nothing seems to come together at the same time- tumor and abnormal blood work results. Along the way, I got diagnosed with a mental illness (depression often with psychotic features).

I was actually happy to have a tumor in my body, but now am frustrated that the blood work is normal. Any pointers anyone has would be welcome.

I am glad I found this website. Thank you all for sharing your stories.
