Janet's Story...

Back in 1995 I was pregnant with my daughter when all of a sudden I began to loose weight, my milk dried up, and I started feeling weak and fatigued. My OB Gyn put me in the hospital, but it didn't help a whole lot. Every time I ate I vomited. I would loose a little weight everyday. After my daughter was born I got sicker. I lost my appetite, and kept loosing weight.

In Feb of 1996 I went to work that morning. When I got home, we had to go see my eldest son perform in a school play. So, on the way home we stopped at a fast food place and bought my husband and son a burger. Again i wasn't hungry so I only got a drink. By the time I made it home my stomach was really bothering me. I was vomiting and had diahrea. After a while my stomach started cramping. I thought I had gotten food poisioning from my drink. Charles ran out to get medicine for me, but nothing helped. So, that morning I called my doctor and she thought that maybe I was dehydrated. She told me to go to the hospital. They gave me a bunch of fluids, and something for nausea. It did help. So, we left the hospital and about two hours later I started feeling really bad again. So, we went back to the hospital and they thought I was having accute appedex. So they gave me emergency surgery and I didn't wake up after it. I was put in the ICU and the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. So, they told my family that I probably wouldn't make it over night.

So they found out it was pituitary gland not working correctly and causing my adrenal gland, thyroid gland and growth hormone, and a host of other gland and hormones not working. So, they started me on Cortef and other medications. So, what was suppose to be three days in the hospital ended up being a month in there. My entire life changed at that moment. I hadn't never beeen really sick ever in my life, and now I'm on medication for the remainder of my life.
