Fauna's Story...

My name is Fauna and I'm 22 years old. I was just diagnosed with a pituitary tumor.

Ever since I had my son 2 1/2 years ago I have had a lot of problems and never knew what they were from and I ignored most of them. First I gained back all the weight I ad lost from my pregnancy and then I gained another 50 pounds pretty fast. My periods were very irregular and then they stopped about 9 months ago I still have milk from having my son over 2 years ago now. So I went to the doctor and she tested some things and had me get an MRI. My prolactin level was only slightly elevated but when they found the tumor my PCP wanted to call it a prolactinoma right away without testing me for cortisol or ACTH.

I'm very frustrated because she didn't even think to test for these and she wants to diagnose something so complex so quickly. So I am going to an endo on Wednesday. I have so many symptoms that she says isn't from the tumor. She says I need to lose weight and my problems are just from my weight.

Well when I went on this web site and read all the symptoms, I knew right away that Cushing's is the answer. The last 2 years my skin has changed from normal to very dry, so dry it hurts sometimes. My face is very red around my nose and often on my cheeks. I have gotten a few hairs on my chin and neck. I have a hump on the back of my neck. I'm tired a lot, and I cant concentrate. I get anxiety and depression. I broke my foot last year with a simple accidental trip and it just snapped. Its a pretty bad break that still isn't healing right. I've gotten pinkish purple stretch marks on my sides of my stomach. I have hot flashes. I feel so strongly that I have this disease, especially since I now know I have a pituitary tumor.

Well, I guess I will just try to make sure the doctor takes me seriously. To me it's obvious. Wish me luck on my endo visit. I will add updates. I'm so glad I found this site. Sometimes I feel like no one understands. Its nice to know there are others out there who feel the same and I'm not some kind of freak like I feel sometimes.

Update February 7, 3005

Well I saw the endo last week and he doesn't think I have Cushing's, he thinks I have PCOS. So he is testing for both, tomorrow I will turn in my 24hr urine test and take the rest of the blood work. I hope to get to the bottom of this. My endo is very nice and very educated, I feel confident in him but we will see. So many people say that their docs wanted to diagnos them with PCOS when they had cushings so I dont know what to think.

I do have some pain like cramping almost in my lower stomach and Im not haveing a period so he could be right. I cant wait to figure all of this out for sure. He also gave me a prescription for dostinex for my prolactin level. I will update this again soon.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone of you going through all of this and more. God bless.
