Dan's Story

After several years of battling high BP, trunk weight and sleep disorder, I was diagnosed with Cushings about 2 years ago. I went through the Pituitary operation last winter, but no tumors were found. After the complete battery of testing the Endo's at UPMC finally settled on Bilateral Adrenal Hypoplasty as the cause. I'm being told the ultimate solution is an Adrenalectomy of one or both of the glands. In the meantime, I have begun taking Ketoconazole (Nizoral) for Cortizole suppession, and tests reveal it to be working. I had been taking a cocktail of meds for my BP which had been effective before the keto, and now my BP is borderline low at times in the evening. We've adjusted my meds, which is good. I've also shown improvement in sleep habits.

My problem is I haven't experienced any weight loss which I was told to expect. I'm not an inactive person and go to a gym 3-4 times a week for aerobic and isometrics and watch my diet. I also am active outdoors and play a lot of golf. At 200 lbs. & 5'7" I could stand to lose about 20-25 lbs. Am I expecting too much too soon? (It's only been a month on the suppression med.) Or there something else I should be doing?
