And It's About Time There Was Some Support For Cushing's!
I've been seeing my endo for about 4 years now for hypotyhroidism. About 2 1/2 years ago, I started complaining about bad headaches, prolactemia and multiple other cushing sighn. My doctor reluctantly ordered an MRI of my head which showed a 6mm pituitary microadenom. Well he just brushed it off telling me that it was nothing to worry about. This was an incidental finding, that people walk around every day with these things not knowing. The only follow up he said that was needed was yearly MRI'S. tHE NEXT YEAR i HAD MORE COMPLAINTS, headaches, prolactemia continued, tiredness body aches. So with my usual tyhroid tets he also ordered a bunch of other lab tests re: hormone level which were abnormal but he chalked this up to me being on he pill. Also my prolactin level was normal despite the prolatemia, a cortisal level that came back high.
His office called to tell me that a lab had come back abnormal and that he wanted me to do a 24 hour urine test. This is when I started asking alot of quetions, what was abnormal? What does i high cortisal level mean? what is he testing for? This is the first time Cushing's ever came up. The 24 hour urine also came back elevated 60's. He sais that this is not cushings we can retest in s few months.
Well I have so many of the signs of cushings. I am obese Ive gained over 50 lbs in the last year. I bruise so easily, I basically stopped getting my period, my body just ache sall th etime. The last few weeks espesially have been horrible for my sleeping cycle, if I go to bed at a normal time I am up between 2 and 4 am every time and most of these times there is no falling back to sleep. Anyway I took it upon myself to see a specialist at Mass. General. With my history and some eleveted 24 hr. cortisal but then some normal tests, they are not willing to diagnos me with cushing yes or no. I don't know what to do at this point, we know that I have all thes symptoms and we know that I have a pituitary tumor, yet no doctor will commit to anything, I just want the surgery and restart my life.
