Anita's Story

Hello

My name is Anita. I actually don't know where to start. I have not been diagnosed with Cushing's but I have been diagnosed with PCOS.

This probably all started years ago. My first symptom as I remember it was weight gain. I had always been heavy as a kid but by 13 or 14 I slimmed way down and held onto that weight all thru high school.

Two weeks after graduation I married by loving husband (most of the time). We have been married for almost 16 years.

Anyway around this same time my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor and given 6 months to live. This was around the time I started gaining the weight back and it came back fast.

I lost most of it over the next 3 years or so. Probably 10 years ago I started the hair growth on my face. Not bad for the first few years. This is the worst thing by any means for me. I can NOT stand this. I would rather be "fat" for the rest of my life just if I could get rid of the hair.

Ok now we have 3 girls ages 13, 11 and 5. I have never had any problems getting pregnant and isn't this one of the main problems with PCOS?

About 3 years ago I started having major problems with my periods. Severe back aches and cramps. Bleeding a lot or not at all. My gyn finally decided to do a hysterectomy about 1 1/2 years ago. Ok so good I feel great for about a year.

Now I feel like I'm falling apart. I have severe headaches, the hair is much much worse on face, my breasts hurt terribly, I run a low-grade temp. everyday. I can't remember or concentrate. VERY irritable. POOR kids of mine. I have been treated for anxiety attacks (not bad just small ones).

I was told by my doctor that I have very brittle bones. I have the buffalo hump and it is quite painful. Purple stretch marks covering my stomach. VERY BAD. My leg aches all the time. I was taking sleeping pills some but even they did not help my sleep. I gave up!!

Today I feel like my breasts have grown 2 sizes. They are very bad today. I can not lose weight whatsoever. I was walking and exercising and watching what I ate for 2 months. It didn't matter what I ate or what I did nothing came off. I now need glasses. 2 years ago. My gyn tried me on Metformin but it didn't really do anything for me.

I also have a weird sensation that I have not heard mentioned yet. I feel like I have been blowing up balloons and my cheeks feel weird. I have a metal taste in my mouth all the time and I get dizzy quite often.

I know this is all out of order but it so hard to remember everything.

At midnight I take my dex pill and go in to my lab at 8 to have the cortisol test. Then at 10 I have my MRI. It is all being done in my small town in Kansas. I don't know wether I should trust my doctor to be able to diagnose me or if I should go somewhere else. And if I do go somewhere else where do I go. I can find nothing even close to me.

HELP

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
